Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM)
According to study conducted by SHRM, around 80 per cent of companies conducted background security checks specifically on the criminal history of the applicants prior to recruiting them. The checks have become a mandatory practice for companies, who prefer trustworthy and sincere employees.
The Society conducted another study, which indicated that along with the big companies; nearly 70 per cent of small firms have also started conducting routine background security checks. The survey also mentioned that in 1996, nearly 35 per cent companies had executed security checks on the financial status of the candidate before hiring them.
Besides investigating the criminal records of prospective employees, many organizations also gather background security checks on other factors such as academic qualification, work experience, medical problems and so on.
Governmental Checks
The US government has become alert and watchful over foreign investment and trading activities with other nations. In addition to national background security checks, the government has also introduced homeland security checks.
